My name is Michael and I am a graduate of the University of Maine system with degrees in Biology, Liberal Studies, and a minor in philosophy.
This blog is devoted to biology and evolution, though it does frequently delve into the prettiness of other sciences. It is geared towards defending the underlying theme of all of biology against the insult of creationism, ignorance, and misinformation. Also, sometimes I will use the British spelling of words, such as “towards”. But most importantly, this blog is about science. First and foremost, science is the best way of knowing. It deserves a place high within any society. Nothing But Science is here to fight against its undue degradation.

Hi Michael. Do you do features about fellow scientists?
I’m writing to pitch a scientist who has spent a lot of time listening to male elephants. Caitlin O’Connell has a new book coming out about the Godfather of a pachyderm posse. She’s studied male elephant behavior and found it to be surprisingly similar to the way we human males behave – the power struggles, the camaraderie, even the bromance. She’s spent a lot of time in places more hospitable to snakes and lions than to scientists. She’d make a great interview, and her view of male elephant behavior will change the way readers think about these animals.
If that sounds interesting, let me know. The book has been praised by Jane Goodall, Marc Bekoff and Frans de Waal. Caitlin is speaking about it at the Explorer’s Club in NYC in April. Galleys can be had from Carrie Olivia Adams at the University of Chicago Press on 773-702-4216 or email her at cadams@press.uchicago.edu. She can set up a chat with Dr. O’Connell.
If I can help in any way, please let me know.
All my best,
Lee
